On Saturday, February
6, 2010, the Mt. San Antonio College Foundation
hosted the 1st Annual Shar Anderson Memorial 5K
Trail Run/Walk despite the weather conditions.
In the words of someone who knew Shar, “Shar
would have loved this type of weather!”
The event was a success and the Foundation raised
a little over $5,000.00 for the Sharlene Anderson
Memorial Scholarship. We had over 250 registered
race participants! This event would not have been
successful if it wasn’t for each and every
participant starting from people who knew Professor
Shar personally, students from Arcadia High School,
race enthusiasts, our sponsors, and the many dedicated
volunteers.
Despite our success, the drive to raise funds is
not over yet. If you would like to continue to
give to her fund, please visit www.givetomtsac.org.

Furthermore, we have received a lot of positive
feedback in regards to the people who participated
in this race. Click

How
this event came to the campus:
Professor Shar Anderson
passed away from cancer about five years ago, and
to honor her, a scholarship at Mt. San Antonio
College was created in her name to be awarded yearly
to students who emulate her adventurous spirit,
positive attitude, her desire to learn and her
zest for life. In order to raise funds for the
scholarship, some friends of Shar and the Mt. San
Antonio College Foundation came up with the idea
of holding a 5K Cross Country Race at the college
where proceeds will go toward funding a scholarship
in her name.
