Bio

Dr. Rillorta earned an AA degree at Pasadena City College and a B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Southern California.

Dr. Rillorta enjoys teaching and mentoring students. She has been supporting students thorough the funding of Sociology Scholarships for over 20 years. Having been the recipient of scholarships while in college and fellowships in graduate school, Dr. Rillorta is passionate about giving back and helping students. She wrote a book about some of her former Mt. SAC students entitled, Journeys to Success: Stories of Extraordinary Students of Mt. San Antonio College. The book is about students who have suffered from adversities and how they overcame these obstacles and thrived while at Mt. SAC.  The purpose of this book is to inspire students who are experiencing similar problems, provide them with role models who have been successful, and give them ideas on what to do to succeed.

While at Mt. SAC, Dr. Rillorta has been awarded several honors including: Education of Distinction, Honors Professor of the Year, Women Inspiring Women Award, and Certificate of Excellent in Student Support. She also has been awarded the Dean Dorn Distinguished Contributions to Teaching Award by the Pacific Sociological Association.

Mt. SAC is an institution that provides such wonderful opportunities for students.  As a first-generation college graduate, Dr. Rillorta realizes the importance of community colleges and how they can change your life. She has enjoyed teaching the diverse groups of students at Mt. SAC and wants to help them succeed.
